□ About Tokyo's "Easy Japanese"
"Easy Japanese" is a simplified form of Japanese that is designed to be understandable to foreigners and others. The number of foreigners living in Tokyo is increasing, with about 580,000 people as of January 2023 (Reiwa 5). The nationalities of these foreigners are also becoming more diverse. In order to realize a multicultural society where Japanese and foreigners can live and thrive together in their communities, it is important to use "Easy Japanese" as a means of communication, while bridging the gap between each other. Furthermore, "Easy Japanese" is not only effective for communication with foreigners, but also as a tool for communication with children, elderly people, and people with disabilities. Efforts to promote the use of "Easy Japanese" are expanding in various fields, including administrative information, daily life information, and news dissemination.
