□ What are "Healthy Heart Week" and "Healthy Heart Day"?
Cardiovascular diseases, represented by stroke and heart disease, are known to be the second leading cause of death for Japanese people, following cancer. In terms of medical expenses, they rank first, and they are also the leading cause of care needs, making them a significant issue not only in healthcare but also socially. On the other hand, unlike cancer, prevention is extremely effective through proper education. Therefore, the Basic Law on Cardiovascular Disease Control, enacted in 2019, promotes nationwide awareness and prevention efforts. The Japan Heart Foundation established August 10 (Heart Day) as "Healthy Heart Day" in 1985 and has been holding heart disease prevention awareness events around August 10 every year. Starting in 2021, the Japanese Circulation Society, the Japanese Circulation Association, and the Japan Heart Foundation, along with the Japan AED Foundation joining in 2023, have collaborated to establish the Healthy Heart Day Executive Committee to further promote awareness. This year, from July 29 (Sat) to August 10 (Thu), 2023, various events will be held under the title "Healthy Heart Week 2023" over approximately two weeks.
