INTERVIEW 2024.1.28

2024 CAMP REPORT & INTERVIEW
vol.7 Kuryu MATSUKI

The camp has reached its 10th day, and today is the final day of the camp in Kunigami Village. As we were preparing to move in the afternoon, we conducted a light training session in the morning.

The opening was a game-style icebreaker. We fostered the coordination between the head and body by following the coach's instructions.

After that, we split into two groups and conducted training focused on shooting and attacking in front of the goal.

In shooting training, the ability to make quick decisions and be decisive in front of the goal is required, and in the training of attacking and defending in front of the goal on half court, the strength in ball winning that coach Peter CKLAMOVSKI has strongly demanded since last season has been demonstrated, while also improving the completion of playing the game by using the pitch widely.

After the end of the full practice, we took a commemorative photo with everyone from the facilities at Kaigin Field Kunigami, who took care of us during the Okinawa Kunigami Camp, as well as the staff at our accommodation and the people from Kunigami Village. Once again, thank you to everyone who supported the Kunigami Camp.

After the end of practice, an interview was conducted with player number 7, Kuryu MATSUKI.

Q, today marks the end of the Okinawa Kunigami Camp. Please tell us about your impressions of the first camp.
A, I believe we were able to build a solid foundation by thoroughly sharing each category—attack, defense, and set plays—across the entire team.

Q, it felt like there were many practices focused on improving accuracy and refining what the team has built up since last season.
A, there are also newly joined players, and I believe Tokyo has a lineup of players with distinctive qualities. This is the second season since Coach Peter CKLAMOVSKI took over, and I feel that each player's understanding of the style of soccer the team wants to express has deepened. With such good players gathered as a team, I have a strong sense that we are building a good team.

Q, on the 23rd, there was also a practice match against FC Ryukyu. How well were you able to demonstrate the results of the first camp on the pitch?
A, Coach CKLAMOVSKI has asked the entire team to share space in the forward line. I think we did well in that regard during the match against Ryukyu. Regarding goal conversion rate, many goals were scored. While there are still issues with conceding goals, I believe it is important for the team to increase the number of clean sheets. We want to thoroughly address the issues raised during the second and third camps.

Q, in the practice match, we also saw Matsuki himself playing in higher positions more frequently than last season.
A, I believe I am expected to score goals. Coach Peter CKLAMOVSKI also aims for a team where the four forward players can score, so I want to contribute to that.

Q, There is only one week left in the camp. What aspects do you want to improve as you move toward the league opener?
A, we also have a practice match coming up, so I’m really looking forward to it. I want to confirm what positions we take and how we circulate the ball in attack and against the opponent’s press. At the Okinawa Kunigami camp, we did a lot of set-piece training. I want to connect the results of our practice to actual outcomes.
